Project CACTUS Participates in bifiPV2025 Workshop and Holds 12 Month General Assembly
Antofagasta, Chile – From January 7th to 9th, 2025, Project CACTUS proudly participated in and sponsored the bifiPV2025 Workshop, an event focused on the latest advancements and challenges in bifacial photovoltaic technologies, particularly under extreme desert conditions.
Held in the city of Antofagasta, the workshop gathered leading experts, researchers, and industry professionals to discuss key issues impacting the performance of photovoltaic plants in high-radiation, high-UV, and fluctuating climate environments, such as those found in the Atacama Desert.
Highlights of CACTUS Contributions
Project CACTUS representatives delivered four insightful presentations during the workshop, covering cutting-edge research and practical innovations. These included:
- Non-pricing KPIs for solar PV (talk given by Atse Louwen, Eurac Research)
- BifiPV introduction: status and future of bifacial technologies (talk given by Delfina Munoz, CEA-INES)
- Intercomparison of soiling measurement methodologies (talk given by Nicole Torres Silva, ATAMOSTEC)
- Multi-technique characterization of photovoltaic cells (talk given by Thu-Nhi Tran Caliste, ESRF)
- Second-life PV: Transitioning from O&M to “preparation-for-reuse” (talk given by Ioannis Tsanakas, CEA-INES)
- Novel tools for indoor and outdoor soiling assessment for PV: Lessons learned from an EU research project (talk given by Ioannis Tsanakas, CEA-INES)
These contributions underscored CACTUS’s commitment to addressing operational challenges and optimizing photovoltaic technologies for extreme conditions, reinforcing our role as a leader in advancing sustainable solar energy solutions.
12 Month General Assembly: Shaping the Future of Project CACTUS
Following the workshop, Project CACTUS held its 12 Month General Assembly on January 10th, 2025, also in Antofagasta. This meeting served as a platform for partners to reflect on the achievements of the past year, align strategies for 2025, and solidify plans for upcoming collaborative efforts.
The assembly emphasized CACTUS’s mission of fostering innovation, knowledge exchange, and sustainable growth within the solar energy sector.
Looking Ahead
With the knowledge gained from the bifiPV2025 Workshop and the renewed focus from our General Assembly, Project CACTUS is excited to continue driving innovation and collaboration in the solar energy landscape in 2025 and beyond.
